Child Advocacy Resource and Education, Inc. (c.a.r.e.) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1976 to support parents through programs designed to preserve families in Weld County Colorado. During the past 35 years c.a.r.e. has evolved into a multi-faceted agency whose programs fulfill our mission to strengthen and preserve families while protecting children from abuse and neglect. Last year our 25 staff served 14,508 children and families in Weld County.

Current programs provided by professional staff include:
Supervised Visitation and Safe Exchanges
. Located in careHouse, these services provide a safe and supportive environment so that children and family members are able to visit one another. Situations that may warrant supervised visitation or safe exchange are families impacted by a high conflict divorce, child abuse and/or neglect, and/or domestic violence. careHouse is the only non-profit provider serving the 19th Judicial District in Weld County. This year 252 adults and children have been assisted through careHouse.

Community Education. c.a.r.e. provides speakers for area trainings, workshops, and community events where we discuss issues surrounding child abuse and encourage healthy parenting. We presented to 1,300 people in 2010.  c.a.r.e.'s SafeTouch program is a highly successful series offered since 1987 to children in Weld County elementary schools. In 2010, 12,000 children in 30 area elementary schools learned to recognize, resist, and report abusive situations.

Parent Education. Parent Education group classes strengthen families by developing positive parenting skills. Our classes focus on behavior management techniques and practical problem solving skills based on a child's current developmental stage. Class participation is rewarded with in-kind incentives. Classes are offered in both Spanish and English and include: Co-Parenting After Divorce, Strengthening Latino Families, Nurturing Parents (for children ages 0-4 and 5-12), Parenting Your Teen, RETHINK Anger Management, and Teens as Parents. In 2010 we served 800 parents in this program.

Children's Program. This program runs concurrently with parent education classes and supports social and emotional growth in children. The Children's Program is a free service to parents allowing them to participate in classes without concern about childcare. In 2010, the Children's Program provided learning experiences for 86 children.
